Angharad Pearce-Jones

Angharad Pearce Jones creates large scale installations; in the landscape, in derelict spaces, museums and for exhibition in galleries. In some cases, her methods of construction draw on her early training as a blacksmith and metal fabricator, whilst her witty treatment of the material is decidedly decorative and feminie. This dichotomy forms a regular strand to her work.

The particular socio political climate of post industrial Wales continues to inspire her, A whole series of wallpapered scaffold installations mirror the hurried greening over of a mining scarred landscapes, whilst wallpapered steel girders in Cardiff Bay comment on rapid re-developments of industrialised urban areas. Her many encounters with the female pin-up of blue collared industries have produced a series of works investigating work related gender stereotyping. Employing her own 'muse', seated on her own anvil, she puts her own spin on this genre, producing a shrine -like installation, " Just what is it that makes today's workplace so different, so desirable...?" quoting the infamous Richard Hamilton.

Angharad Pearce Jones's artwork continues to develop in parallel with changes in modern day working patterns. With a critical eye and an awareness of the meanings inherent in materials of every kind, her forensic approach to her subject is accompanied by a sharp sense of humour.
